WordPress permalink fix with GoDaddy Hosting

I ran into an issue with a customer site today. They have a WordPress site hosted on GoDaddy hosting. When they enable the permalink post structure (ie: http://domain.com/your-post-title) it would throw a bunch of errors. At first I assumed it was a mod_rewrite issue in Apache. But that was not the case. The issue was actually that GoDaddy was using an older version of PHP.

If you are having issues enabling your permalinks on godaddy hosting, have support update the PHP.

If you are unfamiliar with what permalinks are in WordPress here is a quick example:

Default WP URL: http://domain.com/?id=2475

Enabled permalink structure: http://domain.com/your-post-title

Using the permalinks increases SEO with search engines. These are also known as “clean” URL’s.
